Abstract:
Kaupthing Bank, the largest bank of Iceland, is also one of the leading investment banks in the Nordic region. Initially when Kaupthing was started in 1982, it was engaged in providing advisory services and trading securities. Gradually it increased its activities in Iceland and was granted the license for investment banking in 1997 and commercial banking in 2002. Since 2002, Kaupthing started expanding its reach to other Nordic countries. In 2005, it expanded its presence in the UK market, by acquiring Singer & Friedlander Group plc, an independent merchant bank in London.

Pedagogical Objectives:

  • To highlight growth strategies of Kaupthing Bank and understand how Kaupthing achieved its aim of becoming a leading Nordic investment bank.
